SRINAGAR: Kashmir is once again in the centre of row. India believe that the well-planned assault was the work of Lashkar-e-Taiba — the most powerful Pakistan-based militant group fighting against Indian rule in the disputed Muslim-majority region.
While Pakistan has declined the idea, till it gets “true evidence” from the Indian authorities. One of the Mumbai gunmen holding hostages in Nariman house had suggested that the treatment of Muslims in Indian Kashmir was one motivation behind the attack.
During the attack, the same gunman told to a television channel during telephonic talk, “Are you aware how many people have been killed in Kashmir?”
But it’s fortunate for the area, as Kashmiri people came forward against the attack in the name of Kashmir. A local Muslium, Akbar Mantoo, who is working as a contractor, protested against the attack saying, “It is very unfortunate that one of the attackers talked about Kashmir.” “We don’t need supporters or sympathisers like them,” he added.
A bus service was started between Indian- and Pakistan-controlled Kashmir in 2005 and in October the de facto border was opened for trade. Now the peace process seems be blocked in coming days.
