Karnataka crisis over, what next?

by Rajendra Jain on November 8, 2009

Bangalore: Karnataka crisis is said to be over now. BJP leader Sushma Swaraj brokered a compromise to end Karnataka’s fortnight-long political crisis.

Karnataka crisis over, what next

The compromise will see Yeddyurappa dropping one of his cabinet favourites, rural development and panchayath raj minister Shobha Karandlaje from the ministry, and including speaker Jagadish Shettar into the cabinet, as demanded by the Reddys.

According to the reports another understanding reached is to expand the core coordination committee to oversee the administration and flood relief work.

The committee would now accommodate one of the Reddy brothers, Karunakara Reddy, speaker Jagadish Shettar (Reddys’ choice) and another minister recommended by the Reddys.

Others on the committee are Yeddyurappa, party state president Sadananda Gowda, and BJP national general secretary Ananth Kumar.

This would allow the Reddy camp to dictate terms over Yeddyurappa.
